Cobalt / Cobalamin
Builder of Red Blood Cells
Cobalt activates a number of enzymes in the body. It is necessary for normal functioning and maintenance of red blood cells as well as all other body cells. The body doesn't have the ability to synthesize cobalt and must depend on animal sources to supply this nutrient.
Cobalt is found in ocean and sea vegetation as well as eating meats such as liver, kidneys and drinking milk.
Cobalt is stored in the red blood cells and plasma, some storage can occur in the liver, kidneys, spleen and pancreas.
Cobalt Story:
Like humans, sheep, also need this mineral in a very small amount. In Ireland the sheep were dying for no apparent reason. Many possible causes were checked but still no solutions.
Finally the soil was checked and found to be void of Cobalt. The lack of this tiny amount of mineral caused the death of sheep. I share this story to help others understand the importance of minerals both major minerals and trace minerals.
