Phosphorus
Second most abundant mineral in the body and is found in every cell.
Phosphorus is present in the nucleus of almost every cell in the human body, but it is found more abundantly in the brain and nerve tissue. Lack of this mineral may cause mental fatigue, loss of memory, and nervousness.
Phosphorus is important in the utilization of carbohydrates, fats and protein for the growth, maintenance, energy production and repair of cells. It stimulates muscle contractions, including the regular contractions of the heart muscle. Niacin and riboflavin need phosphorus to be digested.
Phosphorus absorption depends on the presence of vitamin D and calcium. The calcium-phosphorus balance is disturbed by white sugar, high fat diets or digestive conditions. A phosphorus deficiency can cause weight problems, irregular breathing, mental and physical fatigue and nervous disorders.
